Successful methods laboratory on the topic of “Participatory decision-making processes in the House of Sustainability e.V. Ulm/Neu-Ulm”

On March 13, 2024, an exciting methods laboratory on the topic of “participatory decision-making processes” took place in the inspiring ambience of the House of Sustainability eV Ulm/Neu-Ulm. The event attracted participants from various initiatives and companies, all sharing a common interest in effective and inclusive decision-making processes.

The methods laboratory offered a unique opportunity to get to know different participatory decision-making processes and to apply them practically.

Under the leadership of Matthias Rausch, three methods were presented and discussed intensively: Delegation Poker, Sociocratic Consensus Moderation and Systemic Consensus.

Delegation Poker: This method allowed participants to understand the principles of delegation of decision-making authority in a playful and accessible way. By simulating decision-making situations, the participants were able to better recognize and communicate their own preferences and limits.

Sociocratic consensus facilitation: Sociocratic consensus facilitation offered a structured approach to decision-making aimed at building consensus and involving all stakeholders. Participants were impressed by the effectiveness of this method for solving complex problems while promoting collaboration and engagement among all participants.

Systemic consensus: Systemic consensus offered a fascinating insight into a method based on principles of self-organization and consideration of all interests. The participants experienced how this method makes it possible to find viable solutions, even on controversial topics, that are supported by the entire group. The change in perspective from agreeing to a selection to assessing resistance to all options was seen as an effective way to make effective decisions, even in large groups.

The participants were enthusiastic

The event was a complete success and left a lasting impression on the participants. The practical exercises and discussions enabled participants to not only gain theoretical knowledge, but also to develop concrete skills that they can apply in their professional and personal contexts.

We would like to thank all participants, the moderator and the team from Haus der Sustainability eV Ulm/Neu-Ulm for their support and contribution to this inspiring event. We are already looking forward to the next methods laboratory on April 10th from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m.
